SAS limits free alcohol on popular holiday routes

SAS has decided to limit the free serving of alcohol to passengers travelling to popular holiday destinations in Spain, Turkey and Portugal.

The restriction applies to those who have free food and drink included in the ticket price, those who travel on SAS ‘Plus tickets, writes the FinalCall.Travel website.

“It is true that in the future there will be three included alcoholic drinks at SAS Plus and unlimited non-alcoholic drinks to some destinations in southern Europe,” says SAS Danish PR manager, Mariam Skovfoged, to FinalCall.travel.

At SAS in Norway, information manager Knut Morten Johansen says that the routes where free alcohol service is restricted for the Plus customers are all holiday destinations.

“There are many families who are going on a holiday trip, and to ensure a pleasant atmosphere for everyone, a limit of three alcohol units has been decided,” he says to flysmart24.no.

Johansen points out that SAS must adhere to legislation that states that the company does not have the opportunity to serve passengers who are intoxicated.

“This legislation trumps our own rules anyway. If a cabin employee sees that a passenger has had enough to drink, it doesn’t help if alcohol is included in the price. Drunk people will not get more alcohol service,” says Johansen.
